Well, I was super pumped at the prospect of getting into an awesome grad school this year, but after receiving rejection letters from all of them this month, I guess I’ve got to make a new plan til next time.
Luckily, I have still had luck with my artwork being in local shows. Thanks everyone who was able to make it out to Venus Rising – an all women exhibition!
Also, stay tuned for my next show, as I will be part of this year’s CCS Alumni Exhibition!
This is month has shown me more rejection, depression, and stress than I’ve experienced in a while, but I am still hopeful! Still doing my thing and hopefully working on more art.
My immediate goal is to find an awesome full time job, instead of working two that don’t pay enough, so that I can devote more time to developing my body of work even further. I am incredibly thankful to those of you who have kept me in mind and have been sending me possible leads for new jobs.
Something has got to work out soon! Right?!]]>
Come see some great art by ALL women artists (myself included)! Proceeds benefit a great cause.]]>
It’s about time for an update, and there is a TON going on right now.
As you may or may not know, I currently work two jobs, which pretty much blows. BUT I have been able to keep myself motivated with my artwork. Probably in large part because I want that to be my job, not this two job bs!
Exciting new things:
I purchased a canopy tent and booth setup, and am going to be applying to sell at art fairs being held in the area!
I’ve also gotten my studio cleaned out and setup as the stage for my YouTube show, teaching art like Bob Ross, but badass
Potentially exciting things:
I applied for grad school and am now in the excruciating waiting for things to happen phase. It’s incredibly nerve racking to know that my potential future will be decided mainly by a 500 word essay and some pictures of my artwork. And maybe a super awkward interview
I am also waiting on three gallery shows that I’ve entered to let me know if they’ve chosen my work.
Wish me luck!!]]>
Turned in my work for the Dirty Show today!]]>
There’s been a crazy huge gap in between posts and I am here to fix that.
So, as you may or may not know, I was recently working a job that required me to be there almost 60 hours each week.
It was terrible. And as you can imagine, completely got rid of any “free time” where I could work on painting. Luckily, I came to my senses and quit. Maybe it was a little sudden… and maybe I didn’t have another job lined up, and maybe I gave my boyfriend a panic attack about our bills… but all in all it was totally worth it!
Now I have two jobs, one working with toddler-preschool age kids – something I never imagined doing, let alone enjoying, but it’s been great – and another teaching classes for Paint Nite (aka teaching painting while drinking). So low stress, and unlike all my previous jobs, I don’t feel like I’m forcing myself into uncomfortable social interactions. Haha.
I’m still out there in the art world and I continue creating!
My work can be seen currently at the Storefront Gallery in Ferndale.
Valentine’s weekend also marks the start of The Dirty Show! I have a piece that will be shown there titled “Fur Blanket.” (hehe) I did most of this piece while working my crazy hour job, so instead of a painting I did a colored pencil piece. Go see it at The Dirty Show and vote it ‘Best in Show’! I will be adding it to my portfolio once the show is over.
Thanks for listening(er, reading?), dudes. Stay tuned for more work and updates to come
Looking for some inspiration to get a kick start. One of my favorite artists to look to is Michael Borremans.
If you haven’t yet, check out this video:
His work is hauntingly beautiful. Something about it is not quite right, and I love it. And check out his home/studio! I want it.
Hope you like my new website! It’s been some time in the making, but now that it’s up I look forward to keeping up this blog and making sure I have new work to post! Questions/ comments? Now you can post them here!
Make sure to visit my portfolio, which has been updated with my newest work.
Thanks for stopping by!]]>
